Toshiyuki Goto began his DJ career in Tokyo’s club scene in the late 1980s before relocating to New York in 1991. Between 1994 and 1995, he became a resident DJ at the legendary Party Acme Disco (NYC), while simultaneously developing his career as a producer.

In 1996, under the name MATO, his collaborations with renowned jazz pianist Masabumi Kikuchi—"Tribe" and "Drifting"—were released on François K's Wave Music NYC, becoming worldwide club hits and marking the beginning of his internationally recognized production career.

In 2002, Goto released his debut solo album "Two-Way Traffic" (Avex), followed by "Progressivefunk" and his second album "No Illusion" (Cutting Edge) in 2007. He has since released numerous original productions through labels in Japan and overseas.

As a remixer, Goto has worked with international artists including Idris Muhammad, Disco Dub Band, and The Love Grocer, while in Japan he has collaborated with influential musicians such as Hiroshi Fujiwara and Yusuke Chiba. In 2019, his remix for Zenrydaz also gained international acclaim.

Following his return to Japan in 2003, Goto established himself as one of the country's leading DJs, holding residencies at iconic venues including Voyage at YELLOW (Nishi-Azabu), The Garden at AIR (Daikanyama), and Sunday Afternoon at Contact (Shibuya). Internationally, he has performed at renowned clubs such as Cielo and Club Shelter in New York, as well as venues across Europe. More recently, he appeared at the MI-BIZA Closing Party in Ibiza, Spain.
