DJ KOJI NAKAMURA began his career in the mid-1980s. After moving to Tokyo, he became a resident DJ at the legendary Roppongi club CIRCUS in the late ’80s, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the scene. Following critical recognition at DMC in 1991, he became a freelance DJ, performing at clubs throughout Japan and internationally.

Alongside his club career, he has performed with a wide range of artists across genres, including Sandii, led by Makoto Kubota, VIBRASTONE, led by Haruo Chikada, as well as L.L Brothers, Yusuke Asada, and Mitsuhiko Oikawa, earning recognition as a pioneer of the band DJ format.

Throughout his career, he has also shared the stage with leading Japanese and international artists including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono, Terumasa Hino, Kiyoshiro Imawano, Jah Wobble, Ice Cube, and Masters At Work. His extensive career includes recordings, live tours, and television appearances, as well as performances on international stages such as WOMAD, MTV Asia Festival, MIDEM in Cannes, and Paris Fashion Week.

From the 1990s through the 2000s, he also worked as a DJ instructor at music schools and record shops, helping nurture the next generation of DJs. Following a period in New York, he launched the major party Playaz “B” at Shibuya clubasia, which ran from 1998 to 2004. The legendary event is said to have helped introduce artists including AI, Ken Hirai, and The Gospellers to the wider music scene.

Today, DJ KOJI NAKAMURA continues to pursue his timeless, genre-defying style across clubs, music bars, corporate events, DJ education, party organization, and spatial production. Drawing on decades of experience across countless dancefloors and musical scenes, he remains a true living legend, with a presence and sound entirely his own.
