Born in Osaka and based on Japan’s Shonan coast near Tokyo, DJ MARIA. is a DJ and producer whose sound moves fluidly across techno, trance, house and ambient, guided by a deep-rooted sense of psychedelia, groove and storytelling.

Rather than being defined by a particular genre or style, her sets are shaped by an instinctive dialogue with the space, the time and the dancefloor. She moves between driving, physical grooves and hypnotic sounds that reach into more introspective territory, at times dissolving the boundaries between techno and trance. In other settings, she explores house, progressive and ambient, revealing another distinct side of her musical language. From peak-time club sets to sunrise sessions outdoors and extended journeys, each setting reveals a different side of her artistry, unfolding as a story unique to that moment.

Having developed her musical perspective in Japan, MARIA. has steadily built an international presence, with an ongoing relationship with Berlin’s Berghain alongside appearances at clubs and festivals around the world. In Japan, she is also a co-founder and organiser of Moment and Transcendence, shaping their distinct worlds from musical curation to the broader vision of each festival. Both have become increasingly recognised within a new generation of Japan’s outdoor festival scene.

Production forms another essential part of her practice. Since releasing the Acid Sunrise EP in 2022, she has released music through Bassiani Records, BLUE HOUR RECORDS, UTE REC and Proxima, among others. Much like her approach to DJing, her productions resist settling into a single style, instead using psychedelia as a thread through an evolving exploration of the sounds and emotions that draw her in.

For DJ MARIA., music is less about repeating a finished formula than remaining in a state of discovery. She is driven by experiences that can exist only between the people sharing a dancefloor at a particular moment. It is this ongoing sense of exploration that connects her work as a DJ, producer and organiser.
