Tatsuya Kanamori, aka DJ SHUFFLEMASTER, is a singular producer and DJ who has been at the forefront of Japan’s techno scene since the mid-1990s.

He has released a string of cutting-edge minimal techno productions on Berlin’s legendary Tresor, his own HOUSEDUST imprint, Ben Sims’ Theory, Subvoice, and more. He has also produced remixes for artists including Adam Beyer, Thomas Schumacher, DJ Rush, and DJ Deeon, establishing an international reputation with his uniquely disciplined yet funky groove.

After performing extensively around the world through the early 2000s, he suddenly stepped away from music. In 2012, following more than a decade of silence, he made a dramatic return with DISMANTLED DESIRE, an album released under the name KANAMORI through his newly founded label, Shiki Kyokai.

Since then, he has continued to release music actively through Shiki Kyokai. Projects with Chicago ghetto house legend DJ Funk and longtime collaborator Chester Beatty have also led to releases on Tiga’s Turbo and Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control. In 2017, his classic Re:Weekender was reissued on Paco Osuna’s Mindshake with a remix by Gary Beck, drawing renewed attention worldwide.

In recent years, international recognition of his work has continued to grow, along with demand for his performances. In summer 2022, he returned to Tresor Berlin for the first time in 17 years. He also appeared as a main act at a festival in Medellín, Colombia, delivering an extended five-hour set.

In January 2023, his landmark 2001 debut album EXP was reissued by Tresor in a deluxe edition featuring previously unreleased material. With new artwork by designer Sk8thing, the release also marked the album’s first-ever digital availability. Later that year, he successfully toured four cities in Colombia, including a B3B (Back to Back to Back) set with Steve Bicknell and Kr!z in Medellín that electrified the crowd.

In February 2025, he embarked on his first North American mini-tour in nearly a quarter of a century, performing in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. Today, alongside regular club appearances across Japan, he continues to receive enthusiastic invitations from techno scenes around the world, particularly in Europe and South America.

From timeless productions and remix work to commanding DJ performances, DJ SHUFFLEMASTER continues to stand apart as a truly unique presence in techno.
